Huy Ngoc Trinh, MD

Dr. Huy N. Trinh graduated with a BS degree in Chemistry with Honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and received his medical degree from Northwestern University School of Medicine. He completed his Internal Medicine residency training at VA Wadsworth/UCLA and his gastroenterology fellowship at the University of California, Irvine.

As a Board Certified Gastroenterologist with 30 years of experience, Dr. Trinh treats various digestive and liver diseases and performs colonoscopies and EGD. His research interest is in viral hepatitis B, hepatitis C, fatty liver, and liver cancer. He is also very active in the aspect of clinical research for drug treatment of viral hepatitis B and C and fatty liver. He participates as principal investigator in many national and international clinical trials and he also has a number of his own investigator-initiated research studies. He has more than 100 articles published in esteemed peer-reviewed journals including Gastroenterology, Hepatology, New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Hepatology, Digestive Diseases, and Sciences, etc.

Huy Ngoc Trinh, MD

He is the founder and co-medical director of the San Jose Liver Tumor Board which comprised of local and Stanford gastroenterologists, hepatologists, Liver Transplant surgeons, radiologists, and interventional radiologists. The tumor board provides comprehensive and state-of-the-art medical care for liver cancer patients.

Dr. Trinh has been in practice since 1991 and was a founding member of San Jose Gastroenterology, Montpelier Surgery Center, and Advanced Surgery Center in San Jose.

He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association (AGA), and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD). Dr. Trinh was recognized as a Fellow of AGA (AGAF) and AASLD (FAASLD)

Dr. Trinh is an award recipient of Humanitarian of the Year: San Francisco Ho Chi Minh Sister City Committee for his work in liver health in Vietnam. He is also awarded a Certificate of Commendation by the County of Santa Clara County of Supervisors for his dedication and services to the Vietnamese American community in Santa Clara county.

Jamie Trinh, NP – Nurse Practitioner

Jamie Trinh is a board certified Nurse Practitioner. She obtained her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of California San Francisco (2018), and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from the University of San Francisco (2010).

Prior to working with Dr. Huy Trinh, she worked as a Nurse Practitioner at San Jose Gastroenterology (2022-2025). She also has extensive experience in Geriatrics and Primary Care, working as a Nurse Practitioner for On Lok Senior Health Services (2018-2021), and Dr. Nicole Vecchi. Prior to her career as a Nurse Practitioner, she worked as a Registered Nurse on the Cardiac Medical Surgical Unit at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in San Francisco (2010-2018).

She brings a wealth of clinical experience over her years of practice as a Registered Nurse and a Nurse Practitioner. Last but not least, she brings in skills in making human connection, through her vast experience in working with diverse populations. Her areas of specialty include Hepatitis B, fatty liver, and IBS. She is conversational in both Vietnamese and Spanish.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, spending time outside with her daughters and husband, and learning about spirituality and meditation. And yes, you may have guessed it. She is Dr. Huy Trinh’s daughter! Together, they are quite a dynamic duo who feel passionately about providing high quality care, education, and advocacy for their patients.
